Stanley Arthur Carlson's Obituary
Stanley Arthur Carlson of El Cajon, CA entered Heaven in the arms of Jesus on December 24, 2023. He was 89 and his daughters, Mary and Michelle were by his side. He was born June 4, 1934 at Lutheran Hospital to the late Arthur and Ellalora Carlson (Block) in Fort Dodge, IA. He grew up in Fort Dodge and worked as a corn detasseler. He was also known for finding the snakes nearby and was known as the snake charmer. He faithfully attended church from his infancy, was confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran on April 10, 1949 and attended church throughout his entire young life. He graduated high school and joined the United States Navy where he worked as a fire control technician on the LSD, USS Spiegel Grove. He went into the Mediterranean, to Turkey, and saw some of where Paul preached, and Italy. He was on the way to the Coliseum when he was recalled to the ship. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, he worked for the United States Postal Service where he spent the next 49 years on a walking route bringing Mail to many customers. He married the love of his life Jeanne in 1965 and she delivered their two daughters!! They brought their daughters up to know and love the Lord by taking them weekly to church and Sunday school and teaching them to pray. His career in the USPS included being a Superviser. He was known as Stan the man with Master plan. His motto was “I did it my way”. He also was a letter carrier who delivered mail to 6 routes for the carriers on their days off. He retired in 1997. After retirement, he did what he loved which included gardening, pruning, woodworking, church and the Lord; singing in the choir, trains, and camping. He enjoyed these hobbies with his beloved wife Jeanne until she died and then continued these delights. His love of the Lord that was born in his baptism, and nurtured during his growing up sustained him through church attendance and reading the Bible, spending time in fellowship and taking the Lord's Supper throughout his life. He was generous in his giving and devoted to his Lord. He read His Portals of Prayers and his Bible every night before praying and going to sleep. He is survived by his daughters, Mary Hanson (Carlson), Michelle Carlson, and his half brother Alan Samuelson. He is predeceased by his two younger sisters, Carolyn Orness, and Evelyn Schulze and his stepbrother, Axel Samuelson.
He was loved by many and will be dearly missed. He was a wonderful and beloved husband and father. Donations in honor of Stanley's life may be made in Stanley's name to Christ Lutheran Church School or to St. Paul Lutheran School, Ft. Dodge, IA. Celebration of Life will be at Christ Lutheran Church on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 11:00 a.m
