John Hanaberry
When I was a young boy, 12, 13, 14 Uncle Stan who worked for
Convair, would send me posters of U.S. fighters made by Convair and
other U.S.companies. I would place them all on the walls of our apartment
in the Bronx. My grandfather was the Superintendant of our building.
One Christmas at Grandmas, where all children ( cousins ), aunts and
uncles etc, were there, Uncle Stan and I were sitting alone at the dinner table ( dinner had not yet been served)). He knew I was interested
In jet fighter aircraft and asked me if I understood how and why
planes could fly. Of course I didn’t and was curios as to how.
He then explained to me how the pressure of air over and under
the planes wings gave the plane “ Lift” and gave it the ability to fly.
He explained it in such a clear and simple way that even a young boy
could understand. I have never forgotten that.
In his way as well as my DaD, they fostered in me a desire to serve my country in uniform. I was fortunate to graduate from WestPoint ,
and serve as an InfantryOfficer in Germany , Vietnam and the U.S.
Please accept my deepest and sincerest Condolences on the loss
of your DaD and Grandfather. John A. Hanaberry. USMA 1966
