Stanley West Walker's Obituary
Stanley West Walker, also known as “Spice”, was born to Elva Small and Rueben Walker; however, he was raised by Elva and Septimus Mignott. He was the second eldest son among his four siblings from Elva, and he shared a special bond with his brother, Ralston Walker.
Growing up in the community of Clapham in the parish of St. Ann, Jamaica, Stanley attended the Clapham All Age School. As an adult, he embraced entrepreneurship, exploring various endeavors. He worked as a surveyor, assessing properties for numerous individuals. Alongside Ms. Eslin Morgan, he ventured to places like Lludas Vale, Clovers Hill, Tyde Dixon, and Moneague to sell personal items.
Stanley also assisted community members by transporting goods weekly and served as a meticulous driver, offering chauffeur services to many. He regularly drove children and teachers to and from school, as well as provided transportation to and from the airport and around the island. He eagerly awaited annual visits from his family at the airport.
His passion for animals led him to farming, where he raised cows, chickens, turkeys, pigs, and goats. Stanley found joy in harvesting yams, bananas, corn, dasheen, pears, and various crops.
A dedicated caregiver, Stanley looked after his grandmother, father, mother, uncle, and aunt. Throughout his life, he coped with the loss of his biological father, stepfather, brother Ralston Walker, and his mother.
His union with Dorothy Brooks brought forth a daughter, Phonia Walker, whom he cherished deeply. Phonia described him as her heartbeat, and they shared cherished moments in Kingston and during holiday visits. Stanley often delighted in taking his daughter and other children from the community to the beach. Known for his sense of humor, Stanley had a knack for cracking jokes and eliciting hearty laughter from those around him, sometimes to the point of coughing.
To the community in Jamaica, where Stanley was a familiar presence, now mourns his loss and remembers him as a caring, supportive figure. They shared laughter, support, and fond memories with him. The community extends heartfelt gratitude to all who cared for and loved Stanley. Although many did not have the chance to bid him farewell, the community acknowledges and appreciates the outpouring of support.
Stanley is survived by his daughter, Phonia Walker Arnold; grandson, Jaheem Arnold; son-in-law, Carl Arnold; brothers, Lester and David; sisters, Elaine and Geaenell; an aunt over 100 years old; nieces; nephews; numerous cousins; and a wide circle of family and friends. His loving nature touched many lives, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
