In Loving Memory of John Steven Lung
May 22, 2024
It is with deep sorrow and immense respect that we announce the passing of John Steven Lung,
a patriot, dedicated serviceman, steadfast protector of our nation's borders, and a beloved family
member. Born June 30, 1945; died May 22, 2024.
Steve dedicated four years of his life (1968-1972) to the United States Navy, where he served with
honor and distinction. His time aboard the USS Harwood destroyer and the USS Bordelon
destroyer were among the most defining periods of his service, reflecting his unwavering
commitment to his country. His tours of duty included time in the Mediterranean and patrolling
around Central and South America. Steve was decorated with the National Defense Service Medal.
After his naval service, Steve continued his life of service at US Customs and Border Protection,
where he worked diligently to secure our border for 30 years. His leadership and dedication
culminated in his retirement as a supervisor, leaving behind a legacy of integrity and excellence.
Steve's memory will be cherished and kept alive by his cousin Judith Elliott and his niece,
Nicole Lung Evans, Lt. Commander, USN, who follows in Steve’s footsteps of naval service.
Steve’s spirit of service and dedication to his country will continue to inspire all who know him.
We bid farewell to a true patriot, whose life was a testament to duty, honor, and the unwavering
love for his country. John Steven Lung will be profoundly missed, but his legacy will forever sail
in the hearts of those he touched.
Fair winds and following seas, Steve. Your watch has ended, but your memory sails on.
