Steven Michael Herndon's Obituary
Steven Michael Herndon was a great man who dedicated his life to serving others. In 1970, after graduating from Helix High School in San Diego, he was drafted into the Army where he served a tour in Viet Nam. Steve later returned to California and worked as a fireman for Orange County. After 11 years of service he had to leave this position due to a serious job injury. When he recovered he went on to work for the Riverside County Sheriff’s 911 Communications Department. He retired after over 20 years of service and on August 24, 2016, Steve lost his battle with cancer. He was 65 years old. He is survived by his sons, Travis and Jeremy, his brothers, John, Richard and Terry and their families and numerous relatives and friends.Steve enjoyed bowling, fishing and hunting and he was a great cook. His favorite foods were lasagna and pancakes. He was a protective father and was most proud of his two sons Travis and Jeremy. Steve had a big heart. He was witty, a morale builder and genuinely cared for others. He was happiest when he was able to laugh, love and celebrate special times with his family and friends. He has touched many lives during his journey. He will be greatly missed.
