Sue Joyce Worthen's Obituary
Sue Joyce Worthen left this world on Sunday, December 13, 2015. She is finally back together with her lifelong sweetheart, Jack, after a 15 year hiatus.Sue was born on April 2, 1934 in Bluefield, West Virginia to her wonderful parents, Sydney and Clementean Johnson. Sue was the 4th daughter and was the youngest until 1956, when her parents adopted her sister, Margaret.The Johnson family moved to Arizona in 1936. It was there that she met and married her one true love, Jack Welcome Worthen. They had 6 children and fostered 4 more children. They moved to California, back to Arizona, then on to North Carolina, then Ohio, finally settling in Santee California in 1970.Sue was very talented and did many things during her life, but serving others was her favorite thing to do. She loved to quilt, sew, bake, cook, and whistle. She loved people and invited many to come into her home when they needed a roof over their head.Sue’s family joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints when she was 14 years old. She held many volunteer positions during her life, but her favorite calling was serving the children in the primary. She was a wonderful member missionary and example to others. Sue loved helping out with the school PTA and volunteering to do whatever she could do to help her children in their school endeavors, including making costumes and food for the high school drama class. Her favorite, however, was serving in the temple for over 25 years.Everyone loved Sue’s cooking because her main ingredient was always love, but everything she made was the best. She often made wedding cakes, candies, and other goodies for others. Sue is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 49 years, 3 sisters, 1 granddaughter, and 1 great- granddaughter. She leaves to cherish her memory 7 children; Jack (Cindy) of Garfield, AR, Jefferson (Terry) of Santee, CA, Jerry (Janet) of La Mesa, CA, James (Debra) of Ramona CA, Carlos Olmeda of Harrison, ME, Joyce Kuoha (Seth) of Murrieta, CA, and Jill Dickens of Ramona, CA along with 24 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, and many more beloved relatives and friends.
