Susan M. Hagstrom's Obituary
Susan (Moody) Hagstrom, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully in Chula Vista, CA on April 7th, 2025, at the age of 82. Born in December 1942 in Aberdeen, S.D., Susan was preceded in death by her mother, Eleanor Hoover Gilchrist.
Susan leaves behind her devoted husband of 58 years, David Hagstrom, and her three daughters: Vickie (Robert) Meza, Anne (Barb) Hagstrom, and Miranda Hagstrom. She was a cherished grandmother to three grandsons: Angel, Xavier, and Richard.
Raised in Columbia, S.D., Susan attended Valparaiso University, where she graduated with a degree in English. She began her career at the IRS and later dedicated herself to raising her children and relocating as a military wife. Once settled in Chula Vista, CA, Susan returned to university to earn a degree in Computer Science and worked at SAIC in San Diego for over 15 years as a software engineer, contributing to numerous projects.
Susan had a passion for the theatre, symphony, and her extensive personal library. She loved sharing her reading recommendations with friends both locally and on social media. Susan was also a dedicated "mom" to many cats she rescued over the years. Known for her straightforward nature, Susan never minced words but was a loyal and true friend. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to your local cat shelter in her memory.
