Suzanne J. Brown's Obituary
Suzanne Elizabeth (Jones) Brown, born February 9, 1937, in Philadelphia, PA to the late Robert L. Sr. and Helen H. Jones in Wilmington, Delaware. Suzanne was raised in Wilmington, Delaware. She attended elementary school and graduated from Howard Highschool in June 1955. At Howard, her and her sister Elaine played on the girls’ basketball team. They were known as the “Twin Towers” because of their height.
Suzanne met and married William J Brown on January 11, 1956. From this union, 5 children were born: William Jr. “Billy” (deceased), Steve, Leslie, Michael, and Tracy. She was blessed with 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Suzanne worked in the X-Ray Department at Wilmington General Hospital until she relocated to California. In San Diego, she began a career in retail. Suzanna retired from Bullock’s/Macy’s in 2003 after 35 years. Suzanne was raised as a Methodist in Wilmington, Delaware, later in life she became an active member of the AME Zion church. Attending Logan Temple AME Zion Church and Winston Chapel AME Zion Church. She served as a Missionary for many years. She also served as a Chairperson for the Life Members. Suzanne loved traveling, as a delegate, to many different states representing her church. Suzanne loved her Church Family. Suzanne really enjoyed crocheting, quilting (she made a quilt for all her family) and enjoying her glass of wine while reading a good book. Suzanne was predeceased by her parents: Robert L. Sr. and Helen H. Jones, sister H. Elaine Purnsley, son William J. Brown Jr., husband William J Brown Sr., (brother in laws) Edward Bruton and Arnold Purnsley, brother Robert L. Jones Jr., and (sister-in-law) Juanita P. Jones. Suzanne leaves to cherish her memories: 2 sons Steven L. and Michael J., 2 daughters Leslie Jeffery (George) and Tracy Brown-Scott (Rodney); 9 grandchildren: Maurice, Shagala, Alicia, Taja, Isaac, Shakeem, Norvella, Madeline, and Noah; 7 great grandchildren: DeAndre, Bentley, Paisley, Leilana, Monice, Kyrie, and Sasha; She also leaves her Uncle Ernest “Duck” Jones 106 yrs old in Philadelphia, PA; several nieces, nephews across Wilmington, DE., Philadelphia, PA., Denver, CO., and Florida as well as her church family and friends.
