Sylvin Leodes Watson's Obituary
“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life;
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.”
Psalm 23:6
Sylvin Leodes Watson was the second of nine siblings born to the union of Sylvin Kirt and Odessa Watson. He confessed Christ as his LORD and Savior and was baptized at Tabernacle Bible Church in Wichita, KS. After moving to Los Angeles and then to San Diego, Sylvin converted to the Catholic faith. While a parishioner at St. Didacus Catholic Church he faithfully served in the Lector, Sacristan, and Eucharistic ministries for the past 24 years of his life.
Sylvin attended Wichita Heights High School where he lettered in track and played the trombone in the marching, school, and pit orchestra bands. During the summer months of high school he participated in the Drum and Bugle Corps. He was also a Boy Scout and after graduation, Sylvin continued to perform in a popular local band. He worked for the Wichita aircraft industry for seven years prior to eventually settling in San Diego. There he excelled within the Kaiser Permanente organization until his retirement in 2020.
Sylvin enjoyed telling jokes and mastered the art at a very young age. He was skilled at holding an unsuspecting audience captive until he delivered the punchline. He loved people and they loved him. He had a flair for fashion as early as elementary school and had an extraordinary gift for building detailed model airplanes growing up. His artistic endeavors also included barbering and cooking.
Sylvin is preceded in death by his parents, Sylvin K. and Odessa Watson‑Blackwell; sister, Merylon J. Holt; and brothers, Wesley E., Donald L., and Leonard P. Watson.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Pat Watson of San Diego, CA; son, Zachrey B. Watson (Linda) and grandchildren, Kayla Z. and Zachrey B. Watson II, all of Kalamazoo, MI; siblings, Syrester A. Shanklin (Jerry) and Sherrie L. Scott of Wichita, KS; Gloria J. Watson of Kansas City, KS; and Kimberly K. Gremillion (Paul) of Raleigh, NC; along with a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and family.
