T. Orla Shaffer's Obituary
Orla Shaffer was born as Theadora Orla Brown on November 15, 1927 in Wilmington, California. Her parents, Theodore W. Brown & Mary Payton McCrae Brown, had four children. Orla was the first born of the four. She attended San Luis Rey Catholic School and after graduation began a career as a civilian pilot during WWII. Later she worked in the retail industry as a manager. Most of her life was spent in the Chula Vista area. She married John M. Coon in 1956, and after a divorce married Mark Shaffer in 1978. She retired in 1995 and spent more time with friends, family, and social groups. She was part of TOPS, the Red Hat Ladies, and the PTA.Orla loved spending time flying in the air. When on the ground, she enjoyed making crafts, sewing, crochet, knitting and cooking. She was a very independent woman who loved being around people. She as very frugal and practical in how she did things, but she was very generous with her love. Some of her favorite music was Opera, Big Band music, and Classical.Orla is survived by: David Lamp – son, Patrick Coon – son, Bruce Coon – son, John Coon – son, Barbara Horn – daughter, her brother Bruce Brown, her sister Bonnie Barefoot, her grand daughter Megan, and her two great grand children Jocorouda & Magnolia.She will be missed by all who knew her.
