Yalong, Teresita S's Obituary
t is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Teresita Sales Yalong (AKA "Tessie"), a beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished member of our community. Teresita left this world surrounded by the love of her family and friends, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, joy, and compassion.
Teresita met the love of her life, Virgilio Yalong when they were still students. They spent several years dating before they finally wed in 1974. They would have celebrated their 50th anniversary this October 2024.
Teresita was the devoted mother of Beverly Mae Cabrera, Virgil Yalong Jr., Trisha David, and John Vernon Yalong. Her love and dedication to her children were unmatched, and she took immense pride in watching them grow into the wonderful individuals they are today. She was also a doting grandmother to her four grandchildren: Clarissa, Dylan, Eric, and Marcelo, who brought her tremendous joy.
Teresita had a zest for life that was evident in everything she did. She was a talented dancer, with a love for music and theater that she passed on to those around her. Her vibrant spirit made every moment with her memorable, whether she was enjoying time with friends and family or indulging in one of her favorite pastimes—going to the casino. Her zeal for justice started at a young age when she was a student at Lyceum of the Philippines University, where she was an activist during the Marcos administration in the Philippines. Even in her twilight years, she would shout at the television in disappointment over the most recent political debacles.
Beyond her love for her family and her passion for the arts, Teresita dedicated countless hours to volunteering at St. Mary's Catholic Church in National City as a catechist, lector, and Eucharistic Minister, where her kindness and generosity touched the lives of many. Her influence was so strong that many of her students remembered her teachings for years after and some even followed her steps and brought their own talents to work on building a stronger community. Her unwavering commitment to her faith and the church will be remembered by all who knew her. Teresita had a strong sense of civic duty as well. She helped found the Christian Movement of Military Families, was a devoted Den Mother with the Boy Scouts, and she helped share and cultivate awareness of Filipino culture by teaching and performing Filipino Folk Dances for the public.
Teresita Yalong’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and selfless service. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her memory will forever remain in our hearts.
