Theda Elaine Clegg's Obituary
Theda Elaine Farnsworth Clegg, 93, of Spring Valley, California, graduated from this mortal school on January 1, 2018, and is now working on her graduate degree surrounded by her husband and those beloved family members who graduated before she did.Elaine was born in Seattle, Washington, on October 30, 1924, and was the eldest of three children. She later moved to the San Francisco area and then to Redwood City. She graduated from Sequoia High School and later from San Jose University with a Bachelor’s degree. She also served an honorable full-time mission in the southern states for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She married Robert H. Sanders, and together they had six children. They later divorced, and Elaine moved to Ogden, Utah, to be near her sister, Shirley Berlin. Elaine reared her six children in Ogden as a single mother. She obtained employment with the State of Utah as a social worker where she worked hard to support her family and to help others who were struggling. Life was hard for the family, but because of her efforts and strengths, all of her children graduated from high school, and five obtained college degrees. Three of her children served missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and all six received their temple endowments. All of her children made good reputations for themselves, and this is to her credit and is due to the morals she instilled in her children. In 1982, Elaine met and married Ervan Leland (Lee) Clegg in the Ogden Temple and then moved to San Diego where she started a new life and faced new challenges. She and Lee owned and managed rental properties. She was a generous landlady who got to personally know each of their tenants. Their tenants loved her and appreciated her kindness and counsel.Lee and Elaine served two full-time missions. First, they served in Guatemala, and then they served in Pennsylvania. They later served as missionaries in the Spanish Branch of the Sweetwater Stake in California. Elaine held more church callings than can be named. She was always willing to serve others and to help those less fortunate. She had a reputation among those who met her as someone who was wise, knowledgeable, and charitable. Elaine truly had the gift of charity. She was also an avid reader of Gospel doctrine books that would give her more knowledge about God and His Plan of Salvation. She loved to get into Gospel discussions with her mother, family members, and friends. We are sure that she is asking her relatives on the other side of the veil many questions and is excited about learning even more in her graduate program.Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, Lee, and by both of her younger siblings, William Yates Farnsworth, Jr., and Shirley Berlin. She is survived by her six children Greg (Linda) Sanders, David (Julie) Sanders, Judy (Gary) McWilliams, Donna Sanders, Linda (Doug) Voy, and Suzanne (Richard) Tillmond. She is also survived by three stepchildren Spencer Clegg, Bonnie (David) Martin, and Jane Clegg. Together Lee and Elaine have 36 grandchildren, 67 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 13, 2018, at the Spring Valley Ward Chapel located at 3348 Sweetwater Springs Blvd., Spring Valley, California at 10:00 a.m. A viewing will be held that day before the services from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at the Spring Valley chapel.
