Thomas Irving Boggs Jr.'s Obituary
Thomas Irving Boggs, Jr (75) died Monday November 30, 2020 at his home in La Mesa, CA. Born in Lynbrook, NY, he arrived in Alameda, CA in 1968 after serving in the United States Navy. He was a dedicated firefighter for Alameda County until his retirement in 2003. He was a lover of science, art and music; he frequented the many museums that San Diego has to offer and enjoyed going to live theatre to see his daughters and granddaughters perform. He loved his family. He loved his daughters. He loved living close to two of his four granddaughters and being a part of their life every day. Though reluctant, he finally did give in to technology and enjoyed FaceTime calls with his other two granddaughters in Pennsylvania. He was a proud member of the Gideons and took great pride in his faith. He believed deeply in God’s plan for his life. He was diagnosed with Mantle Cell Lymphoma in 2013 and beat the odds twice and made sure to take advantage of every day he was given while here physically on earth. He is survived by his daughters Sharla (Sean) Mandere of La Mesa, CA; Christa (Joe) Burneff of Pittsburgh, PA; and his four wonderful granddaughters Delia, Sorella, Amelia and Nora.
Services will be held Monday December 14 with a viewing at 1pm, followed immediately by a graveside service. Services will be held at Greenwood Memorial Park & Mortuary in San Diego. The family hopes to have a larger celebration of life at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to City of Hope, Gideons International or La Mesa Central Congregational Church.
