Thomas Francis Noonan's Obituary
Thomas Francis Noonan, 89, passed away peacefully at his residence on November 3rd, 2024, surrounded by his family.
Thomas was born in 1935 in Honolulu Hawaii to George and Elsie (Beese) Noonan. Shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor, the family left Hawaii and settled in Coronado, where Elsie later married Coronado local Art Albeck. Tom and his sisters Carol and Maggie shared a wonderful childhood growing up in Coronado. For decades their home was a treasured gathering place for friends and family.
Tom graduated from Coronado High School in 1953 where he excelled as a championship basketball player. Tom set the San Diego County scoring record and was named Metro League “Player of the Year”. He also set the county high jump record that lasted until 1967. He played collegiate basketball and met his first wife, Judy, at San Diego State University. Eventually, they settled in Escondido and raised a large, loving family. During this time, he worked for TI Title Insurance Agency and Standard Pacific. Tom was very active in the San Diego indoor and beach volleyball world. His passion for sports carried over to his five children. Each of them was involved in various high school sports. Three of his five children participated in collegiate athletics at division one colleges, including UCSB, Pepperdine, and UCLA. In 1986, after returning home to Coronado, he met his second wife Kathy Yori. Together for 38 years, Tom and Kathy shared a passion for the beach, road trips to Mexico, and spending time with family.
He was preceded to heaven by his mother, father, stepfather, his beloved sister Carol Noonan (at 19 years old), his first-born baby daughter Blair Elizabeth (at 22 months old), his nephew Patrick Howard, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is survived by his wife Kathy Noonan, his sister Maggie Herlihy, his ex-wife Judy College; their children: Betsy Koelle (Bud), Tom Noonan (Kurtney), Blair Salmon (Tom), Kim Noonan, and Matt Noonan (Leigh); stepson Shane Yori; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.
Tom’s final resting place will be at the side of his young daughter Blair Elizabeth, at Fort Rosecrans in Point Loma California. We bid goodbye to someone so loved. Aloha Oe, farewell to thee, until we meet again.
