Thomas Truong Li's Obituary
Our beloved “Tom (Ly Van Truong)” was born in Vinh Long on June 18, 1934. The youngest of fivesiblings, he graduated from Petrus Ky High School in Saigon and joined the Viet Nam Air Force after attended atraining program in Rochefort, France. Tom married his sweetheart, Kieu, in 1957 and they hadfive children. Tom, our Patriarch was greatly loved by 11 grandchildren.He migrated to the U.S. in 1980, settled in Pasadena. He began his career in his new homeland as asocial worker. He then ventured into the restaurant businesses and owned a convenient store. Hepracticed as a realtor and broker in San Diego for 10 years. At the young age of 53, he completed theintense and rigorous San Diego Police Academy and settled into his career as a Community ServiceOfficer for the Police Department serving 16 years until his retirement in 2002. He was highly self-motivated and disciplined. He invented his own exercise program to maintain fitness and promoted theprogram to friends and family. Tom was a people person and a great conversationalist who easily andpassionately engaged in many subjects including politics. He was an active citizen correspondingwith everyone from the mayor to the president of the United States. He was an astute linguist, fluentnot only in Vietnamese, but also in French and English. He was an avid cruiser, hetravelled around the world with his loving wife, Kieu, visiting Asia, Europe, South America and Australia.Tom was a loving, caring husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed.
