Thongchanh Panyavong's Obituary
Beloved father and grandfather, Thongchanh Panyavong, at the age of 82, passed away while visiting our family in Murfreesboro, TN at Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital on Monday, February 4, 2019. He was born in Vientiane, Laos on May 2, 1936 and arrived in San Diego in 1979, where he resided for the next 40 years. He proudly served in the Armed Forces as Colonel in the Laotian Army for many years. He then headed to Thailand during the war to protect his family, before making their final trek to the United States and settling in to a newer and simpler life. He earned his living as an electrician and after retirement, watched and raised his many grandchildren. He is survived by 1 brother and 1 sister who reside in Laos; 9 children; 21 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren all here in the United States. He lived a long and full life with thousands of relatives and friends near and far, and was an integral part of his community. His services will be held in San Diego, California at Greenwood Memorial Park & Mortuary in our cultural and religious traditions. He will be cremated and will be laid to rest at Wat Lao Buddharam of San Diego next to his late wife and the mother of his children. Please click on SERVICE DETAILS to learn more.
