Verna R. Dennehy

Verna was a very dear friend and she will be greatly missed. Our days at USD's Law School are some of my most cherished memories which I recall often with a smile on my face. She and I shared countless stories about our families and she was very proud of hers. My sincere condolences to her family and friends.

Verna was the anchor in the USD Records Office. She could answer any question, knew my students, and dispensed information with a wicked smile. When I asked, she always requested fragrant soap for Christmas, and giggled when I gave it to her. I remember her with great fondness.

Verna's Law SchoolThe sign on Verna's desk said it all. On behalf of countless alums of USD Law School, you should know that Verna advised us about classes and professors, talked us through the trials and tribulations of getting through law school, and made us laugh at the moment when we most lost perspective.Throughout my years at the law school as a student and then later as an employee Verna was one of my primary advisors. In fact, Verna told me that I couldn't marry my husband unless she (and Pat!) approved of him. I'm happy he passed their test.Verna made many people's lives better – by caring, by listening, by laughing, and giving of herself over and over.She will be remembered by many now and in the future as a dear friend.

Verna was very important to me. She covered for me whenever I made a stupid error. That happened more often than anyone should know. She helped get us students into our Center for Public Interest Law and Children's Advocacy Institute. She supported my work in countless ways. She was super competent. Julie and I both could always count on Verna to get it done, and to get it done right. And I loved her personality. She was just a hoot. Of course she told me I was her favorite professor at USD. And I even believed it. In fact, I still believe it. USD has a great staff, but nobody could ever replace Verna. Her family should know that a whole lot of us here at USD miss her. I salute Verna who was one of our finest veterans. My condolences for your loss and gratitude for your loved one's service to our country. Verna was so funny & had such a fantastic sense of humor! She will sorely be missed by everyone she touched in her lifetime both personally & professionally! She was certainly the "cats meow" & at times the "eye of the tiger"!
