Veth Sengchanthalangsy's Obituary
Veth Sengchanthalangsy, 71, died June 30, 2015, with his family by his side in Escondido, California. He was born in Savannakhet, Laos on May 1, 1944. Veth was the eldest of eight boys to parents, Chane My Sengchanthalangsy and Mala Souvannakhot and grew up on a rice farm. He aspired to do many great things and so his journey began after graduating with Superior honors from L’Inspection Des Ã?coles Primaires de Savannakhet in 1959. Veth yearned to see the world and broaden his education, and thus found himself in Fort Lee, Virginia, and later graduated as Sergeant after completion of Quartermaster School with the United States Army in 1962. From there he served more than 13 years working as an administrator with the U.S Aid Mission to Laos, part of the State Department of Foreign Services, managing supply chain for overseas operations. His operations included construction weapons, POL supply and programming FY budgets for operations. Veth worked his way through the ranks and held the position of Senior Quartermaster Chief Clerk prior to termination of USAID in Laos. During his time in Vientiane, Veth met his wife, Bouakheua “Bo” Vorakoumane. On July 1st, 1965, their families united and the two souls began their journey; unbeknownst to them, their colorful adventures would take them over 8,500 miles from their home. In 1976, Veth and Bo (with five young daughters in tow) fled Laos as refugees and with the support of U.S. Immigration, were granted admission into the United states on September 28, 1977; destination—San Diego! A few weeks later, they settled in Escondido, California and in 1979, they welcomed their sixth child and only son, King Sengchanthalangsy.Veth’s relentless pursuit and perseverance landed him a job in 1977 with a high technology wire company, called Judd Wire (formerly ECC Electronic) which specialized in use of electron beam cross-linked thermosets for wire insulation. There, Veth worked as their Warehouse Superintendent and was responsible for stock control, shipping, receiving, inventory, reeling and cutting machines. In 1982, Veth transferred to the Extruder Department of Judd Wire (a subsidiary of Sumitomo Electric), prior to its acquisition by 3M Company. As an extruder operator, Veth was responsible for the wire extrusion process using various plastic compounds and conductors. He ensured product conformance to manufacturing specifications/acceptance criteria, utilizing process controls and in-process testing procedures, and was ISO 9001-QS 9000 certified. After 26 years of service, Veth retired from Judd Wire in 2004, and followed his passion as a humanitarian, serving Lao communities and abroad in need of a voice, a free world, and democracy. His hobbies included freshwater fishing, listening to classical Laotian and American music, watching old cartoons and comedies (e.g. Tom & Jerry, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, The Last Unicorn, I Love Lucy, Abbott & Costello, and The Three Stooges) and he was an avid reader of Newsweek, U.S.News & World Report, and Times. Veth loved nature and enjoyed camping trips with his family. Veth was a highly spiritual being and as a Buddhist, devoted himself to his religious beliefs, his loving family, and community. His loyalty, integrity, compassion, dream for world peace, and loving nature will be his legacy. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, six children, and fourteen grandchildren.Survived by: Wife – Mrs. Bouakheua SengchanthalangsySon- Mr. King Sengchanthalangsy Daughters- Lorilyn and Haley SengchanthalangsyFive Daughters- Mrs. Phouvimalay Tran, married to Mr. Phuong Tran Son- Ryan Veth Tran Daughter- Phoebe Mallee TranMiss Phourasmy Monica Brent Sons- Derik Veth Tse and Miles Dwyer Daughter- Katherine DwyerMrs. Phoumany Noonie Thibodeau, married to Mr. Craig Thibodeau Daughter- Michele Hope Thibodeau Son- Darren Scott ThibodeauMrs. Phokham Lei Lei Sengchanthalangsy, married to Mr. Allen Lu Son- Nathan Allen Lu Daughter- Grace Malani LuMrs. Boualoy Dayton, married to Mr. Brian Dayton Sons- Timothy Veth and Jeremy Sengme Dayton Daughter- Audrey Bouasavanh Dayton
