Victoria Ann “Vicky” Northover was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother. She passed away on November 16, 2022 at the age of 73.
She was born to Robert and Dolores on January 7, 1949 in Detroit, Michigan. She was the second born of six children. After graduating from Cooley High School, she married her husband, Art. Together, they moved to California and raised two boys, Michael and Patrick. She spent her final days at her home in San Diego, where she was lovingly cared for by Art. Vicky and Art were married for 53 years.
Vicky held multiple careers. She stayed home to take care of her boys when they were young. She also taught computer classes at an elementary school and worked as a bookkeeper at a nursery. In her retirement, she served as treasurer of a garden club.
Vicky enjoyed crafts, antiquing and reading about history. For a time, she made and sold her own crafts. She also collected and sold antiques. She often read about the American Civil War.
Vicky loved music, particularly the music of her childhood–Motown artists as well as performers like Elvis Presley, Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash and the Beatles.
Vicky also loved spending time outdoors and traveling. She enjoyed family trips to Lake Michigan as a girl and camping trips at Lake Tahoe with her husband and sons. When at home, she enjoyed taking walks and gardening. In her retirement, she lived a lifelong dream of traveling to Europe. She made multiple trips there with family. Some of her favorite destinations included London, Paris, Rome and Edinburgh.
Vicky was honest, patient, unassuming, intelligent, funny and caring. She was a generous listener and a loyal friend. Vicky had a calming presence, and visitors enjoyed her warm and welcoming home.
In Vicky's own words, she lived "a good life". She is survived by her siblings, her husband, her sons, her daughters-in-law, her granddaughter and her dog, Charlie. A celebration of Vicky’s life will be held in 2023.
