Virginia Maria Carlson's Obituary
Virginia Carlson was born on November 23rd, 1918 in Brooklyn, New York, to Swedish immigrant parents and died July 25, 2017 in Spring Valley, California. She graduated from Erasmus Hall High School, one of the oldest high schools in the U.S.. Virginia met Carl Arnold Carlson at a church in Brooklyn and they were married September 26nd, 1942. She and Arnold moved to San Diego in 1947 with their two oldest sons. She spent the rest of her life in La Mesa and Spring Valley, living the last 25 years at Mt. Miguel Covenant Village. Virginia served for many years as a Pink Lady volunteer at Grossmont Hospital and was an avid Mall Walker at Grossmont Center, logging over 1300 miles with that group. When her youngest child reached high school she began working for the county library system and then as a library clerk at Point Loma Nazarene College. The last living charter member of College Center Covenant Church, Virginia was very active in the church until recent years. She is survived by son Ken (Nancy), son Gordon, daughter Chris (Steve) Nemeth, and son Russ (Laurie), eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service celebrating her life and her faith will be held on Saturday, September 2nd, at 10 a. m. at the Bailey Center, Mt. Miguel Covenant Village, 325 Kempton Street, Spring Valley, CA 91977. Memorials may be sent to Alpine Camp and Conference Center, Blue Jay, CA 92317.
