Virginia May Hahn's Obituary
Virginia Hahn’s magnificent journey of 100 years came to an end on Sunday, February 11, 2018, surrounded by family in a home filled with love. She was born on October 31, 1917, in Morenci, Arizona, to Alida and James Watson. As a teenager, Virginia Watson moved with her parents and siblings, to Ocean Beach where she graduated from Point Loma High School in 1935. She married Paul Jones in 1939 and gave birth to her first child, daughter Carolee, in 1940. They were later divorced. In 1945, at the not-so-tender age of 28, Virginia, a single-mother in Post-War America, attended a dance in El Cajon where she met a man who was just tall enough for her taste and had a difficult to follow bounce in his dance step. Herschel and Virginia married in 1947 and lived in Ocean Beach and operated the adjoining Bayview Nursery. They bought a home in Point Loma in 1954 where they would live together until his passing in 1996. Virginia and Herschel raised three children in their Point Loma home—Carolee, Gail, and Greg. She worked for the State as a Supervisor and after approx. 20 years of diligent service in a windowless downstairs office, retired in 1973 at the age of 56. She collected a pension check for well over 40 years. Virginia and Herschel built a wonderful cabin out of what once was a marine barracks in Julian on a quarter-acre of land. They spent many years building and tending their rustic mountain getaway. They enjoyed taking long road trips by motorhome for over 20 years to visit family and explore the landscape of our country. She was a lady of many talents and interests. She enjoyed crocheting afghans for every child and grandchild. Her interests included canning home-grown fruit, reading suspense novels, who-dunnits and crossword puzzles. She played the organ, danced and greatly enjoyed the music of her times. Virginia Hahn lived 100 years on this Earth. She resided in the same house in Point Loma for 64 years. She spent the last three months of her life admiring the lake views from her daughter’s house surrounded by loving family. Virginia Hahn left us peacefully with her daughter Gail, son-in-law Rick Seideman and granddaughter Julie Seideman at her side. She was predeceased by her husband, parents and siblings – Helen, Herb and Dan. She is survived by three children—Carolee Thornburgh, Gail (Rick) Seideman, and Greg (Sheila) Hahn; four grandchildren—Michael Thornburgh, Gregory Thornburgh, Matthew Seideman, and Julie Seideman; four step-grandchildren, Jerrod, Ryan, Cade and Chantelle Ackley; three great-grandchildren—Easton, Garin, and Prince and thirteen step-great-grandchildren
