Gerry Brown and Gini cutting a log together. Then resting after they filled the truck with the trees we all worked hard cutting down. Neighbors working on a labor of love. We enjoyed a good lunch before heading home. This was a county project, they invited who ever wanted to clear some over growth and we volunteered. It was quite an accomplishment and a real feel good day!
A friend of mine had a theme party. It was Mexican theme, we dressed the part, ate great food, danced 💃and enjoyed.
Gini and Jake lived nextdoor to my parents. That's how we met and became friends. It was always a nice time visiting with them. I often took Lisa with me and my two kids, Chuck and Lori when we went places for fun.
When my Mother-in-law and close friend Muriel wanted me to help her find Jesus as her savior I contacted Gini and asked for her help
Gini took me, my mother Gerry Brown and Muriel to a little church gathering that was held in the old playhouse theater on the border of La Masa and San Diego. Together we all went forward with Murial helping her to except Jesus and be Born Again.
Later in 1981 I joined an organization that was multi level marketing of health products and diets, Founder's International with the actor Peter Lupus. I signed up Gini and Jake and Gini took the ball and ran with it, doing very well. The pictures I posted are of those days. Gini is standing next to Murial and my mother, Gerry Brown is right behind them in the group picture.
Gini knew I sewed a lot doing interior design. When one of the themes she was decorating was Country, she asked me to help by making dinette seat cushions, a table cloth and table topper in her choice of materials. I liked what she choose so much I also decorated my place with it too. She was always changing her kitchen and overall style of her beautiful home. A very talented Lady! Whenever I went to discuss her ideas Jake would come in the house and join us for a friendly visit. I Loved those visits, they were both so nice.
The front garden of their home was Beautiful, it looked like an English Garden. The backyard was like an Island, so Beautiful. They both worked so hard to make it like that.
I'll never forget them and the whole family. All of them were perfect neighbors/ friends. The boys Jake Jr and David practing basketball. Diane, was so friendly, we had nice visits too. And Lisa, she always had a big smile. She and my daughter have been close friends since they were young inspite of their age differences. Lori was 4 and Lisa was 6 years older. I almost named my Lori Lisa Dawn, it's like they were meant to be friends.
I've missed our friendship since Gini and Jake moved to Maui. I will post more pictures when I find some.
Christmas was always and is still my most fond memory of visiting San Diego when I was a kid. The warm family atmosphere, the love and just overall cherished memories.
It’s impossible for me to think of Gini without thinking of Jake. From the first time I met them in 1977 at Lido’s (another “can’t think of Lido’s without thinking of Jake and Gini” moment), I knew they were a special couple. In fact, it was difficult for me to find a photo when Jake wasn’t touching Gini… keeping her safe and close to him always. Theirs was a love I greatly admired. And there was much to admire about Gini — from the little things like her handwriting and gift wrapping, to the big things like her faith and her ferocious loyalty. She was a special woman and I was blessed to have known her. Just as her children and grandchildren were blessed to call her Mom and Nani. Rest in peace, beautiful lady. You did good. Matthew 25:23
