I am very sorry to hear of Walter's passing. We grew up together in Encanto and were good friends throughout our school years. I met Walter (or Sam, as we sometimes called him at Lincoln High) somewhere in the first or second grade, and in the sixth grade we served as co-vice presidents of the Encanto Elementary School student government. He, Paul Reed, Ralph Clem, and I made our first "road trip" together when we were LHS seniors, an overnight visit to El Centro to watch Lincoln play a football game. Walter, of course, was the life of the party for that adventure. The last time I saw him was at San Diego State, where, by luck of the draw, we ended up as lab partners in a physics class, and he helped me to get an "A" in the lab. He was a smart, fun guy, and I always appreciated his unique sense of humor. I will miss him. My condolences to his family on his passing. Doug Johnson
