I was a brand new teacher and Dr. Walker was my principal. I learned so much from her. I passed her wisdom on to other teachers when I went on to become a principal and then to other principals during my dozen years as an assistant superintendent and superintendent. She was truly a Renaissance woman who inspired everyone to do their best. Her legacy will live on.
I will never forget Wanda. She really enjoyed her time in Japan. I remember helping her put on a kimono for my daughter's and her grandson's wedding and the both of us laughing at the small details of getting it just right. It seemed she enjoyed it a lot! Another fond memory of mine was watching her calmly doing the dishes after a Chistmas party at her grandson's David's house. So many other people could have done it, but she just went about her business and helped out. While most grandparents in Japan are happy to let the younger people do the clean up, she surprised me with her get up and go attitude to do anything anytime! I'm sorry I did not get a chance to visit with her as much as I could…
My prayers to the family… Dr walker was a special lady she had the the gift to draw out the best in people she came in contact with she was my principle at Granville elementary late 60's early 70's.
Dr. Walker was a warm and caring Principal. At Tierrasanta Elementary in 1972 and onwards, I remember her every break and lunch out on the black top playground with a shovel in her hands ready to kill any rattlesnakes that came out into the sun from the "new" development of houses taking over the open canyon areas. She was always present with us in classrooms and loved to know what "her kids" were learning. What a wonderful woman! We were so blessed to have her with us in our educational community for so many years!
I will miss you Grandma! You taught me so much, especially the passion for life, and the love of the game! I will never forget the challenges you set for yourself, and the willingness to overcome them all. You passed that trait into everyone of your grandchildren. We have all gone on to do some amazing things. Thank you! I will do my best to continue your legacy, and work hard to overcome any challenges and obstacles that block my way forward!Enjoy your rest, though I am sure it will not last long. I am pretty sure you are already playing your viola with the angels! I love you Grandma!
Dr. Walker was definitely a community builder in Tierrasanta. Our family of three kids started with her in the Portables of Tierrasanta Elementary way back in 1971. She was the Principal, we all admired and respected her. I loved my 5th and 6th grade years there. My sister started there in 1st grade and my brother in 3rd. We all recall how Dr. Walker would be out with her shovel killing rattlesnakes at our little school! A wonderful woman who showed how to live a wonderful life. God bless you, Walker family.Catherine

I am so sad to hear of Wanda's passing. She was a unique person, a good administrator, and a special friend. When we were "principal wanna-be's" we (Birdie Ferhman, Ruth Cantor, Rosary Nepi, Wanda and I) met every Thursday for breakfast to talk about how things were going, share stories and dreams. These breakfast meeting went on for over 25 years. Now all of the group have passed on (I was the baby of the group!). I usually heard from Wanda at least once a year but haven't heard anything for over a year. She will be missed! She was a a lady of many talents! Beverly Foster
