Webb L. Nimick's Obituary
Webb Nimick, known to his friends and family as Bruzz, was born May 28, 1921 in Pennsylvania to Martha and Alexander Nimick. The nickname came from his four-year old brother Alex, when Webb was a baby, and remained with him throughout his life.Webb attended Yale University from 1940 to 1943 obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree and Naval R.O.T.C. training for an Ensign’s Commission. He went on active duty in June of 1943 aboard the PC 789 operating as convoy escort from San Diego. Webb remained in the Navy as executive officer on PC 1174 until he was released in May of 1946.Webb relocated to California in 1954 and accepted a position with Standard Steel Corporation in the Los Angeles area. On a visit to La Jolla to see his mother who was escaping the eastern winter weather, Webb met Joan Newell, a widow with two young children. He became a regular weekend commuter to La Jolla. He married Joan in La Jolla in August of 1958. They eventually settled in Altadena and remained in the area until he retired in 1985.Combined Joan and Webb have five children. Craig and Vanessa are from Joan’s previous marriage, Geoff and Martha are from Webb’s previous marriage and their child, Joanna was born in December of 1959. The family dynamic has always been referred to as “His, Hers and Theirs”.In 1987 Webb and Joan relocated to La Jolla in the current residence. Since his retirement Joan and Webb continued their love of travel and have visited many exotic and exciting places all over the world. Throughout most of his life Webb has maintained a love of photography and he has captured beautiful moments and memories of all the wonderful places they experienced through their travels. As family members it often became tiresome when “Dad” was constantly trying to take your picture but we always enjoyed seeing all the pictures and movies later on.”Webb”, “Bruzz”, “Grandpops” passed away on Sunday, April 8, 2012 at his home in La Jolla. He will be sorely missed by his family friends and anyone who was close to him.
