Willard Wayne Threlkeld's Obituary
After 67 years of marriage and 91 years of life, Willard “Will” Threlkeld met his beloved Savior face to face on March 16, 2016. Will was born in Nickerson, Kansas on 01/21/25, the same year the Giant Dipper Roller Coaster was “born” here in San Diego, where he came to live and work in 1952 with his wife, Sylvia E. Threlkeld. He served his country in the Army in his youth, worked for San Diego City schools as a 5th & 6th grade teacher and guidance counselor then after 30 years, retired and continued to work several other jobs, including as a proctor and administrative assistant for a title company. Will was known for his creativity and over the years, learned to sew, knit, crochet, make soap, make jewelry, make pottery and in his final years, taught himself to weave; hand looming scarves, shawls, tablecloths, rugs and assorted other items which he then sold at craft shows or donated to charities. His main passion was serving the Lord in many capacities from deacon, to counselor, Sunday School teacher, Bibles Study leader and mentor. He and his wife “traveled with a purpose”, combining their love of adventure with serving as short term missionaries all over the world doing anything to help further the cause of Christ. He is survived by his wife; Sylvia, oldest son & daughter-in-law; Steve & Sheree Threlkeld, daughter and son-in-law; Terri & Steve Pharr and youngest son and daughter-in-law; Paul & Beth Threlkeld. He has 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
