William Edward Bates obituaryWilliam Edward (Bill) Bates died peacefully at Alvarado Hospital in San Diego, California at the age of 83 years. He is survived by his daughter Sheri Sorenson and his sons Gary Serbeniuk, John Serbeniuk, Wayne Harris, Mike Harris, and William Curran and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. His remaining siblings are Joyce Cook–Birmingham Al, Dorothy Banks–Weaver Al (Husband Willie), Thomas Bates –Fayetteville, N.C (Wife Bessie), Ricky Bates–Springfield, MA (Wife Peggy), Regina Wilson –Ontario, CA (Husband James).He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Janice Bates. Bill was born in Manchester, Alabama on October 29, 1935 to Otto Bates and Clara Mae (Pollard) Bates. He served proudly in the United States Air Force and the Air Force Reserve. For many years, Bill owned and operated a landscape and general contracting company in San Diego. In later years, he owned and operated a plumbing business, also in San Diego.A funeral is scheduled for 2:30 pm on Friday, April 5th 2019 at the Garden Chapel at Greenwood Memorial Park, 4300 Imperial Avenue, San Diego CA 92113. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Bill’s life. Flowers and condolences may be sent to the chapel.
