William A. Racette Sr.'s Obituary
William Anthony Racette Captain William “Bill” A. Racette (USN RET) passed away at home on 25 January 2013 after a short illness in Coronado, CA at the age of 92. He was always a humble and kind person with an easy smile and pleasant word for everyone he met. Originally from Brooklyn, New York and a 1943 graduate of the U. S. Naval Academy, Bill was a Naval Officer and Aviator for over 28 years. He served in World War II onboard several ships and his career spanned a variety of shipboard and aviation units, including Executive Officer, USS Constellation (CVA-62), and Commanding Officer of VU-3 and of NAS Dallas, TX. After retiring from the Navy, Bill and his family moved to Coronado in 1973 where he was involved in local real estate and several small businesses for over 20 years. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Coronado. He traveled extensively with his wife of 62 years, Frances Church Racette. He is also survived by his daughter, Teresa R. Hall, and two sons, William Anthony and Steven Thomas, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.His ashes will be interred in early March at Fort Rosencrans in a private family ceremony.
