Winolyn K. Knoth's Obituary
Windie Knoth passed away peacefully from natural causes February 13, 2024, at Nazareth House in San Diego. She was 93 years old proud. Windie was born to Winston and Mary Key, 11/9/30 in Cleveland, Ohio, raised in Bay Village, Ohio until she was a teenager, and then moved to Hollywood, CA. She met her sweetheart, Dick Knoth, at UCLA and they married in 1950.
Windie was an active force of volunteerism and for that she was a 2006 recipient of The Women of Dedication Award from the Salvation Army. Windie served as Chairwoman on numerous boards to raise funds for various causes and organizations. She was also a founding member of The Klee Wyck Society in 1962, supported the Museum of Man in Balboa Park, was a member of The Junior League, The Maritime Museum of San Diego, San Diego Zoo RITZ Fundraiser, Rady Children's Hospital and La Playa Unit Auxiliary, The San Diego Cancer Association, The Point Loma Association, America's Cup Campaign, The Wednesday Club, and a lifelong member of the San Diego Yacht Club where she served on numerous committees with her husband and family. Windie's legacy to the community will be remembered for her loving heart and beautiful smile, but she was most proud to be a Wife, Mother, and Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother to her devoted and grateful family.
Windie loved all things beautiful and found joy in each season of her life. She loved to dance to Glenn Miller, do variety shows, sing to musicals, arrange flowers, tie bows, travel the world, go camping, sailing, skiing, running, all things Scottish, holidays, seasons, helping others, going for yogurt, ordering her special coffee and always her giggle and laughter were front and center. Dinner parties and dress up, fancy galas and balls, raising money for anyone and everyone, was so important to her. Give back and have fun, support your family and friends, and smile while doing it. Always love hard and forgiveness is paramount. Fresh air, a hard work ethic, empathy for others and an understanding of people and their place in the world taught her family that kindness towards others is expected of them. Her daughters, their husbands, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren knew her love for them was not only forever, but solid and sure. Her heart was always open and if you were there, you were loved. Open the windows and live LIFE! And she did to the fullest and those who loved her and knew her were the better for it.
Windie is survived by daughters Melanie English (Rob), Allyson Ledsam (Doug), Lesley Pearson (David), Grandchildren Ben Ledsam (Danielle), Kate Ledsam Evans (Kris), Neil Ledsam, Anne English, Mary English Houghton (Matt), Jacey Correia-Lopez (Christian), Michael Correia, Nik Pearson (Samantha), and Great-Grandchildren Victoria and John Ledsam, Lyla and Charles Evans, River Pearson, and Catalina Correia-Lopez. Her Bay Village family will also remain forever in her heart.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Rady Children's Hospital Pediatric Heart Institute and / or The Salvation Army.
