Van, Thanks for your many years of friendship. Rest in Peace. You will always be remembered. Kathleen Triplett
My heart breaks for you, Susan, and for your family. I posted this on FB but I want you to have these memories in this space. This what I will always remember about Uncle Van. He was kind and patient. He loved his Dr Pepper and peanuts and paperbacks. Fishing was his second love in life, after you. He was committed to recording our childhoods on video. I never heard him raise his voice in anger. He was the only adult in my life that whole heartedly supported my reading habit. He thought a yellow meated watermelon was better than a bar of gold. And he would set off fireworks until every kid in the yard fell asleep. We celebrate his life as well lived and I shall miss him!! Love you, DeeDee
I’ve always known Poppa Van to be the strongest person. He was so knowledgeable about life itself. He was an amazing judge of character and I always wanted to get his opinion on new people in my life. I remember one time I got so upset because my brothers both got to spend a week with him and I hadn’t gotten that chance. So I threw a fit until my parents let me go. Let me tell you, it was the most amazing week and I will always cherish those memories. He tried so hard to make my time with him memorable. And he succeeded. He was such a kind and loving person and I will always remember the times I was lucky enough to share with him. I know now, that he’s smiling down on us and he’s home with his mom who he loved so dearly. I love you Poppa. You are in my thoughts and in my heart.
Van has been my father in law for almost 30 years. In those years I have grown to love him and have taken away the ” in law”. He’s a 2nd dad to me. He has shown me that a man needs to be kind, gentle. sensitive and intelligent among many other qualities. He never had a bad thing to say about anyone and had a unique appreciation for the world around him. He loved to travel and video taped most of his trips. He never shied away from an adventure. His knowledge of the world around him gave him a sense of child like curiosity. He will be missed and I will forever hear his greeting to me whenever he saw me. “Well hello young fella”. I love you dad. Your new adventure has just begun
