Audrey Babb's Obituary
On August 11th, 1931 in Woodbine, Iowa, Audrey Lee (Johnson) Babb was born to Walter and Lois Johnson at their farmhouse. While farm life could be hard (milking cows, feeding chickens and no indoor plumbing) she was a proud and happy country girl. Her life on the farm was shared with older brother Gene, younger sister Juanita and younger brother Gail. She attended and graduated from Woodbine High in 1949 and shortly after began working at Mutual of Omaha. The year of 1952 would become her life changing year! She moved to San Diego with her sister, started work at Pacific Freight Liners and met the love of her life Johnny Babb. After a brief courtship of 49 days the two love birds ran off to Yuma to get married on the 4th of July, 1952. In 1954 brought the birth of their daughter, Diana Lee and Denise Lynne followed in 1958.Audrey worked as a technical typist for Convair from 1955 – 1966 and then as an administrative secretary at General Atomic from 1966 – 1988. Along the way in 1974, Johnny and Audrey planted over 300 orange trees which became the Babb’s Orchard for the next 31 years! They also opened the Main Street Antique Mall. Audrey enjoyed traveling to visit long distance family members, along with sewing, crafting, baking, cooking, movies, crosswords, lunching with girlfriends, the Del Mar Fair with grandkids, loved watching Young and the Restless and Dancing with the Stars along with her movie star crush, Harrison Ford! These were some of her favorite things. However, Audrey’s true passion was the selfless love she gave her family. The extraordinary depth of her kindness, care, love and nurturing heart was unmeasured. Her generous love so sweet, gentle and joyful was showered upon us all, always tending to everyone’s needs. She was truly an angel here with us, but now an angel among many.Donations can be made in Audrey’s memory to Ovarian Cancer Research Fund: http://www.ocrf.org/donatenow
