Bernadetta Harris' Obituary
On July 17th, 1957, Bernadetta Dair was born to Clarence and Ruthie Dair in San Francisco California. Ruthie remarried to Ruben Pratt in 1962 and the family relocated to San Diego, California, where Bernadette grew up. She graduated from Morse High School, and went on to work various jobs. Her love for kids lead her to a career with the San Diego Unified School District, which she worked for over 25 years, spreading her love and kindness to all her students/ kids from K1-K12.
Bernadette loved life and lived it to the fullest. She loved kids and her house was the neighborhood house where all the kids would go. She loved it so much she became a foster mother and open her doors to anyone that needed help.
Deja was everything Bernadette always wanted a baby girl. When Deja was born Bernadette kept her close. She showered Deja with toys and art. From elementary school to high school she supported Deja in all of her endeavors, and welcomed and embraced all of Deja’s friends into her home along the way. Bernadette traveled with Deja in the summer and immersed her with play’s, charity events, spelling bee’s and the youth chapter of the eastern star. She loved Deja with her entire heart and wanted nothing more than to make sure she had the best of everything.
Bernadette had a special bond with her niece, Denise Pratt-Little and she was always there for her, she raised her as her other daughter. When you saw Bernadette, you’d always see Dejanette and Denise. She was devoted to her family and friends, and was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone that needed it.
In 2005, She joined the Eastern Star, Ada B. Cleveland Chapter #71, where she served two terms as Worthy Matron in 2010 and 2019. She also served as the Charity Committee for 5 years, where she was openly active in the Chapter and work hard in every capacity.
Bernadette loved cooking, dancing and music. She cooked just about every holiday for the family, and while she was cooking she had her music blasting and she sung along. Every time she pulled up to your house you already knew who it was because she always had her music up loud. That’s how she rolled. Her favorite pastime was playing bingo wherever she could find it. Most importantly she loved playing bingo every Tuesday with a bunch of her cherished senior friends. She also loved working with ceramics.
She met the love of her life, David Harris on June 25th, 1980 and formed a relationship in 1987, and subsequently married in April of 2004. From this union they had a lovely daughter Dejanette who was born in March 1995.
