I was on the La Mesa Gymnastic Team with Clark and I have videos of him doing gymnastics.
Clark and I attended Murray Manor, Parkway Junior High and Helix High School together. I too remember him as a great gymnast during the weekly gymnastic session in Mr. Gillis's class. I dreaded it, he thrived on it…none of us could even come close. While we were all trying to get the 2 somersaults onto the mat (before hitting the cafeteria floor; which doubled as our gym), Clark was doing back flips over all of us. I was saddened to hear that Clark had passed away. My condolences to the Friedgen family.
I had the pleasure of having Clark work for me for 4 years before he moved on to his job with the city. I was sorry to lose him as he was a great employee with a great attitude. Always upbeat, interesting to talk to, and always involved in trying to further his knowledge when it came to the work he did. I never went rock climbing with him, but after his several trips he took while he was working with me, he was always very excited and animated to express details of his journeys. He was a hard worker and always enjoyable to be around. We climbed many a tree together. When I last saw him, Aug. of '09 at a PTCA meeting, he mentioned he was going through some troubles with his health. He will be missed. My heartfelt condolences to his family on this sad occasion.
I knew Clark at Parkway Middle School, where he was the best gymnast around as well as a nice guy. What's strange is that although I didn't know him that well and hadn't thought about him in years, something made me Google him on a whim today… Condolences to his family and friends.
Clark was a real trooper. Through all his adversities, he never complained, and always kept a positive outlook . He will be missed. Larry McElroy (San Diego)
This is really sad news. Clark was a great person. I remember a friend telling me that Clark was sick. I had not seen him in a few years. I meant to call or visit him but did not get the chance. I only knew him from the climbing world but I did consider him a friend. We shared a few climbing adventures. I have fond memories of great climbing with him. I will miss his quiet manner, his strong handshake and his courageous leadership.I am impressed with the common theme about Clark. He was a quiet and gentle person who was unassuming and a good friend. I will miss him.
Although I haven't seen Clark in many years, I'd like to voice my sympathies without hesitation. He was a kind and gentle man that will be missed by all. He will be missed.
Clark was as friendly a guy as you could hope to find. It was my honor to have climbed with him. He was a strong climber with a strong heart and a good friend. Bob ( Silver City NM )
Clark was a wonderful person. He was the silent type that was always smiling. He was friendly to everyone. I knew him seven plus years ago/ when he was first starting out as a ground crew tree person. I am saddened to hear of his loss. My heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
