Clark R. Friedgen's Obituary
Clark Friedgen passed away on June 14, 2010 at age 52, following a long illness. He grew up in La Mesa and attended Helix High School and San Diego State University. His lifelong love for adventure and the outdoors took him from climbing out his bedroom window and up onto the roof as a toddler, to several years as an elite gymnast on the La Mesa Gymnastics team, and competitive high school diver. He was an avid surfer, backpacker, rock climber, and mountain biker. Clark loved flying his two passenger RV6A Airplane which he maintained with TLC. He had a fulfilling career with the City of San Diego Parks and Recreation Department where he was a crew leader in tree maintenance. He knew the history and biology of every tree in Balboa Park. It was an education to ride with him through the park and learn about the trees he cared for so much. He was proud of having worked with the artist that created the “Comfort Tree” in Balboa Park, a red, white and blue tribute to the 9/11 catastrophe. He cherished the friendship of his climbing buddies and the camaraderie of the flying community at Brown Field. He was predeceased by his mother, Alice. He is survived by his father, Robert, whose love and devotion allowed him to complete his life’s journey at home, in dignity. He is also survived by his sisters, Susan and Holly, brother-in-law David, nephews Bryan and Kevin, and many friends. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Chapter 14 of the Experimental Aircraft Association at Brown Field or the American Cancer Society. Clark, we wish you God’s blessings in this greatest adventure of all.
