Dad was a man of many talents.
Early in his career , Dad worked with The Public Works Department for the City of Mexicali.
Here, Dad held many positions and the one he excelled was Carpentry and cabinet making.
Although Dad wasn’t able to pursue his trainings, he loved to learn and would encourage others to educate themselves —because to him learning was “very interesting.”
In 1975, his relationship with God led him to a life long calling of ministry and service.
David traveled throughout Mexico, California, and Oregon preaching the good news of salvation.
Dad felt a strong calling to financially assist Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation facilities in the rural areas of Tijuana, Tecate, and Mexicali Mexico. Dad also provided food and clothing to the native Cucapa tribes in Mexico.
Later in life, Dad took to street ministry and made it his full time job to preach the message of salvation. He did this boldly, disregarding the scoffers. David’s voice echoed through his Megaphone across the busy Cherry Auction and Fulton Mall streets of Fresno California.
David enjoyed street ministry and in his later years would participate annually in the Children’s Christmas Toy’s Giveaway in the city of Madera California. Dad had a servant heart and enjoyed sharing stories with immigrant families. It was a blessing for him to serve the children residing in low income and minority community.
Dad was a member of the Mexicali Baja California Asambleas de Dios.
He experienced the Pastor role in several church’s ,and discovered missionary work was his calling.
Anyone who had a chance to sit down with “Don David” knows they were often entertained with testimonials of his missionary work.
He believed in meeting lost souls (without judgement) right where they are in life.
Often, being obedient to God’s calling led to relocating the family.
In doing so, Dad met many special family friends over the years. These friends included Rey y Bilma Ellis, Valentin y Enriqueta Murillo, Tiodero y Flora Hernandez, Pablo y Barbi Garcia, and many more.
In 1996, the family relocated to Fowler California and shortly after moved Fresno California, where he lived for over 20 years.
As his health declined and his needs increased, Dad decided to move back to his “paradise” of San Diego with his wife and Family. Dad appreciated the beauty of God’s creation, and enjoyed walking along the pathways of the Pacific Ocean. It is here, in his “paradise”, Dad would treasure his last few years of life.
