Dominic "Mimmo" Romano's Obituary
Dominic Romano, ‘Mimmo’ left this world on March 25, 2010. Mimmo was born in the midst of WW II on June 5, 1943 in San Mauro Pascoli, a small warfront town in Northern Italy. Dom, along with his brother Nino , mother and aunt, survived the war while our father was taken prisoner in Africa. Mimmo immigrated along with our family to the states in 1956. Dom graduated from San Diego High School and later served his country by joining the US Army including a nine month tour in Viet Nam. Upon discharge, he returned to San Diego and entered the restaurant business. He first worked in the family restaurant in Mission Hills, Figaro’s Italian Restaurant, and later owned The Oak Tree restaurant in La Jolla. After selling The Oak Tree, he changed his profession to property management, working for Cousin Frank for many years, until his illness no longer allowed him to do so. Mimmo had a passion for dancing, and could cook with the best of chefs. While he loved all animals, he had a special passion for dogs and horses. You might have seen him showing or judging dogs in shows or at the Del Mar turf club during racing season. He inherited that certain Romano stubbornness, which made him both an obstinate and loving brother. It is all of these qualities, along with his own very unique sense of humor, which will always keep him alive in our thoughts. To say that he influenced our lives is to minimize the wonderful and memorable impact he had on all his family and friends.Dom was pre deceased by his life partner of forty years, Jack; he leaves behind his sister Caterina, his two brothers Nino and Franco, and many nephews, nieces and cousins, in San Diego and in Italy. While we will miss him terribly, the memories he leaves us will be everlasting; he will always be remembered and in our hearts. Mimmo, may you finally be at rest and at peace. Visitation is on Tuesday, March 30th from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Mission Hills. A Rosary will follow beginning at 6:00 p.m.Mass for Dominic will be celebrated at St. Vincent de Paul on Wednesday, March 31st at 10:00 a.m. Followed by entombment with military honors at Greenwood Memorial Park.
