Donald Lee Kleinhen II's Obituary
It is with sorrow that we announce the passing of Donald (Don) Lee Kleinhen II, a beloved husband, father, and friend. Don left this world on October 23, 2023, leaving a legacy of love, laughter, mentorship, and many silly hats. Don was born in Toledo, Ohio on October 20, 1958. Shortly after, he left the United States for Germany with his mother Roma and father Donald. There he acted as translator and explorer for his parents before returning to the USA at 5 years old. At Franklin Elementary, during 6th grade, he was awarded Patrol Boy of the Year for the City of San Diego. With this title he was able to meet and discuss all things Safety with J. Edgar Hoover.
Don was also a graduate of Helix High School, where he played trumpet with the school band. At Helix, he was also introduced to his sports passion – Handball. He also attended both the University of California, San Diego and the United States Air Force Academy.
After returning to San Diego, Don joined the United States Postal Service. He retired after 42 years of delivering mail, making dog friends, and collecting golf balls on his route next to the Balboa Golf course. He also continued playing handball with the local group at Robb Field and became an avid supporter of the “San Diego” Chargers.
In 1987 Don married the love of his life, Veronica, and a few years later had a son, Donny. He was a supportive husband and father, taking care of his mother and mother-in-law Amelia and often cooking or baking. He became a pillar of the Boy Scout community. An Eagle Rank Scout himself, he became a counselor and helped mentor many scouts on their road to Eagle.
Don will be remembered by the many whose lives he touched. May he rest in peace, knowing that he brought light, laughter, and silly shirts into the world.
Don’s memory lives on with his mother Roma Stronach, wife Veronica (Roni) Kleinhen, son Donald (Donny) Kleinhen III, and daughter-in-law Allison Kleinhen and many fur babies.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association or the Alzheimer’s Association.
