This video has always been one of my favorite memories of Grandma Doris. Avery, one of her great grandchildren, was upset and crying, and Grandma simply rocked her, held her close, and comforted her until she calmed down. It is one of those ordinary moments that I just so happened to capture and now years later, has become extraordinary.
Grandma had a fiery personality and a presence that let you know immediately not to mess with her. She was strong, outspoken and never afraid to tell you exactly what she thought. She always had a quick comeback, solid advice, and a way of making you laugh when you least expected it.
But beneath that tough exterior was the biggest heart. She would give anyone the shirt off her back and help anyone without expecting anything in return. Her greatest gift was making the people she loved feel safe, protected and cared for. She was someone who made you instantly know not to mess with her, yet she carried the biggest heart beneath it all. She had a quick wit and an even quicker comeback, the kind of humor that could catch you off guard and leave you laughing long after.
She wasn’t my grandmother by blood, but she treated me like I was her own and she loved me as her own. For 26 years, I had the honor and privilege of calling her Grandma. I will carry a lifetime of memories, love, lessons, and moments that helped shape who I am today.
Grandma Cooper may no longer physically be here, but her love will continue to live on in every story, every lesson, every quick-witted comeback, and every generation she helped raise.
She is deeply missed.
We love you forever, Grandma. Life will never be the same.
