Gregory Yee's Obituary
Gregory Yee, age 75, passed away peacefully, Sunday December 21st, 2025, at Kaiser San Diego Medical Center. He was born on June 11th, 1950, to Benny and May Yee in San Diego, California. He was the third child of four siblings, including Benny Jr., James, and Geraldine.
Gregory attended Clairemont High School in San Diego. He continued his education at San Diego State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in 1972. He worked at Scripps Institution of Oceanography in San Diego, researching whales, fish, and giant turtles. He continued his career at NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration), monitoring fishing boats using output controls according to grow or decline of fish stock. He found more work at the Lab for Comparative Biochemistry studying fish around the world, which lead to his other work at Fluoromed Pharmaceutical doing research on synthetic blood. Which included time at Alliance Pharmaceutical. He was a business owner and scientific consultant.
While working in Brazil, he met and fell in love with Maria Monteiro, marrying her in 1997. In 2007, they welcomed their daughter Sabina.
He enjoyed fishing with his old friends, traveling with his family, watching football games including the San Diego Chargers, testing his daughter’s baked goods, and chatting with his wife for hours on end. Gregory was a generous person, lovely husband and father, loyal friend, and caring uncle to his nieces and nephews. He is survived by his wife of 28 years and daughter Sabina.
His Memorial Service is scheduled for Saturday, January 24th, 2026, at Greenwood Memorial Park & Mortuary, 4300 Imperial Ave, San Diego, CA 92113. Time: viewing from 11am to 1pm; memorial service from 1pm to 2pm; burial 2:30 pm. Reception to follow at Diamond Palace Chinese Restaurant, 3993 54th Street, San Diego, CA 92105.
