Jinaan Sherbeny's Obituary
Jinaan Sherbeny, born Susan Lee Coats, passed away at age 61 in her home in Rancho Bernardo, California with her companion, Greg Muzzarelli, and his daughter, Mia Muzzarelli, by her side. She left this world on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at 12:02am. Jinaan showed strength and courage while fighting for her health, however, she was diagnosed with cancer that spread progressively throughout her body and she passed shortly after the diagnosis. She was born on May 20, 1951, and was the first and only child to her parents, Layton Lee Coats and Ann S. Coats She grew up in Kountze, Texas, a small town near the area known as “The Big Thicket”. She was a bit of a wanderer and a dreamer, and had many stories to tell. She went to school in Texas, California, and even taught seminars in Boston at one point. She didn’t have the traditional education background, but rather, picked up her education as she traveled the country learning from people from all different walks of life. She loved to dance, meditate, learn, converse, and share. She studied many different religions, forms of healing, and was a well known professional dancer. Jinaan used her studies of flamenco and belly dancing to create her own style of dance, which mesmerized her audience during her improvisational performances. She believed in the freedom of people to practice their own beliefs and wished there were more justice in the world, spent countless hours watching the news and keeping apprised of international events. She revisited her dancing roots just a few years back, when she started her own dance group geared towards healing people in need. She felt immense pride in what she did, and her fellow dancers all believed she helped them greatly. She wished she was able to keep up with the people in her life better and be active in the community more, and always had a special place in her heart for Texas and the fond memories of her childhood. She is survived by her companion of over 17 years, Greg Muzzarelli age 56, his daughter Mia Muzzarelli age 31, his son Jason Muzzarelli age 34, and many close and valued friends that she had made along the way. And we mustn’t forget her loving and loyal cat, Custer, that wandered into their home and never left. There will be a viewing on both Monday May 13 and Tuesday May 14 at the Greenwood Memorial Park & Mortuary at 4300 Imperial Ave San Diego, California.
