Throughout his life, John explored various professions, but it was in fishing, boatbuilding, teaching, and mentoring that he truly found his calling. He lived life to the fullest, embracing every moment with unwavering enthusiasm and a deep passion for helping others. He had a deep and unwavering relationship with the Lord, which drove him to share God’s love with everyone he met.
John had a special place in his heart for at-risk youth, which inspired him to found the Good Neighbor Project in 2006. Over the years, he took thousands of children, parents, friends, and family on fishing trips. He also dedicated his time to the community through computer training, organizing local events, providing equestrian education, and distributing food and PPE. For more than a decade, he was involved in the annual San Diego Bay Parade of Lights and the Perkins Christmas event.
Most recently, John was an active honorary member of the Don Diego VFW Post 7420, a role he felt deeply honored to hold. His commitment to civic events and community planning was unwavering, as was his support for the shipyards and the significant contributions they made to the area. John played an instrumental role in educating the community about the history of the tuna industry and its lasting impact on San Diego.
Family, friends, and all whose lives John touched are invited to celebrate his life at the Garden Chapel at Greenwood Memorial Park and Mortuary, 4300 Imperial Avenue, San Diego, March 14, from 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM. Services will begin at 10:00 AM.
