John James Krooskos' Obituary
John Krooskos, 81, passed away peacefully at Kaiser Hospital on November 20, 2022, after losing his battle with leukemia. A native of San Diego, John grew up in South Park of San Diego, attended San Diego High School and San Diego State. In 1972, John met the love of his life, Phyllis Bertolino; the two were married in 1973, and blessed with one son, Jim. A devoted husband and father, John was employed by Buel-Town Company of San Diego, and later by Van Waters and Rogers. For many years he was the successful co-owner of Bonita Valley Liquor alongside Jim Theodorelos.
Both John and his wife were avid outdoorsmen who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing golf. He rarely missed a hunting season opening day traveling to Imperial Valley for dove, pheasant, and duck hunting. He thoroughly enjoyed these trips with his closest friends and family members.
John is survived by his loving wife Phyllis, his son Jim and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, James Krooskos, his mother, Josephine, his brother, George and his sister, Virginia Demos.
Trisagion Service will be held at St. Gregory of Nyssa Greek Orthodox Church on Tuesday, December 13, at 6:00 pm, and the funeral service will be held at St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church on Wednesday, December 14, at 10:00 am. A private interment service will be conducted at Greenwood Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
