JUAN MANUEL CERVANTES JR.
Known to family and friends as “Johnny”
Johnny, age 40, died unexpectedly of Natural Causes on January 3, 2021 in his Chula Vista
home.
He was born in San Diego on June 18, 1980 in San Diego, the son of Juan Manuel Sr. and
Rebecca Angie (Dominguez) Cervantes.
Johnny attended Balboa Elementary in San Diego, Kellogg Elementary, Hilltop Middle School
and Eastlake High School in Chula Vista. In elementary school, Johnny was identified as Gifted
and Talented (GATE Program) and received numerous awards.
Johnny enjoyed and excelled in sports. He participated in AYSO and YMCA soccer, Pop
Warner Football, little league baseball where he was voted by his coaches and peers to multiple
All-Star teams.
Johnny also played on the JV and Varsity baseball teams at Eastlake High school. One of
Johnny’s teammates was Adrian Gonzalez, who was the first overall pick in the 2000 MLB
draft by the Florida Marlins.
Johnny was an avid San Francisco 49ers fan. His favorite player of all time was Jerry Rice #80,
the 49ers Hall of Fame wide receiver.
He was looking forward to having children and coaching them in youth sports.
In addition to his parents, Johnny is survived by his brother and sister-in-law Gilbert and Eleonor
Dominguez, niece RosaMaria, nephew Gilbert jr., and niece Yesenia (Murillo), her husband,
Dillon Moermond and their daughter, Delilah; his sister Gloria Yvette Cervantes and her
Fiancee, Norman Moore; His sister Marisela Dominguez (Cervantes) Dettman, her husband
Spencer Dettman and their newborn, Camila Jade Dettman.
Johnny is also survived by his lovable BFF Sophie, a French-Bulldog.
Johnny’s beautiful smile, sense of humor and fun-loving demeanor will always be missed.

Due to Covid19 restrictions there will be no congregational services. A limited viewing for close
family and friends will be held at the Sally Lynn Chapel at Greenwood Memorial Park. This
limited viewing will consist of groups of 10 persons wearing mandatory facemasks, social
distancing and entering for a brief viewing. Only groups of 10 will be allowed at any one time.

We ask that anyone who has had recent contact with someone that has had Covid19 or exhibits
symptoms of Covid19 to please avoid attending the viewing and enjoy the live webcast in the
comfort of your home.
There will be no immediate “Celebration of Life” after the service; however, the family will honor
Johnny at a future “Celebration of Life” once Covid19 restrictions are lifted. Dates and times
