Lanette Bursey's Obituary
This Is My StoryLanette Jackson Bursey was the third of four children born to Willie J. and Ethel Smith Jackson. A native of San Diego, Lanette attended Stockton Elementary, Memorial Jr. High, and San Diego High Schools. After attending San Diego City College, Lanette moved to Washington, D. C, to work as an office administrator. Upon returning to San Diego, she began working in Environmental Services at Scripps Mercy Hospital. September 4th would have marked her 39th year of service. Lanette was very conscientious about her work gave it her very best.Lanette enjoyed reading, cooking, shopping and walking by the water. She cooked great soul food, replicating her mothers, cakes, sweet pies, and dressing, among other things. She also enjoyed trying new recipes and figuring out how to make something she sampled and wanted to share with others. Lanette shopped for shoes and new fashions not only for herself but for her entire family.Lanette received Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Mount Zion Missionary Church by the late Dr. Caney Johnson. Lanette was raised working in various departments of the church. She loved gospel music and listening to the Word.In 1982, Lanette married the late Robert Bursey. One daughter, Ambria Rochelle, was born to this union. “Bree” was the light of Lanette’s life, and was a wonderful comfort to her mom over the past few weeks.On August 15, 2019, the Lord called Lanette from labor to reward. Left to cherish precious memories are daughter, Ambria R. Bursey, sisters, Brenda Waters and Rosalind Yvette Jackson; brother-in-law, Perry Waters, Jr.; nephew, Perry Waters, III; niece, Krystal Morris (Bernard); great nephews, Bernard, Jr., and Kentan Morris; Stepchildren, Gloria Hart, Vernell, Milton, and Wanda Bursey, Sharon Richardson, and Kenneth Bursey. Special friends, Florine Gilson, Elizabeth Spence, Alfonso Rodgers, and Oliver Sampson; pets, Diva the cat and China the Shih Tzu; and a host of relatives, friends and loved ones to mourn her passing.
