Leone Marie Hess' Obituary
Leone Marie Hess, wife, mother and educator, was one of nine children born to John and Clara Wallace on April 26, 1920, in Berlin, Wisconsin. She died at Sharp Lakeview Hospice on June 6, 2015, at age 95.She had a distinguished public school teaching career extending from 1940 to 1981. She was the recipient of numerous honors during her career, particularly in her role as a reading specialist. The majority of her career was with the Cajon Valley School District. Leone was a member of the California Teachers’ Association and the National Education Association, and received an honorary lifetime membership in the PTA.Leone married fellow teacher Howard Hess in 1944. In 1958, they moved with their son Gary from their native Wisconsin to the San Diego area, where they remained for the rest of their lives.She is survived by her son, Gary Hess of San Diego, two sisters, Betty Szczepanski and Gloria Gudex, and numerous nieces and nephews. Her husband Howard preceded her in death in 1993.Services will be held at St. Therese Parish at 10:00 a.m. on June 16, 2015, immediately followed by a reception and then burial at Greenwood Memorial Park. A vigil will be held at Greenwood at 5:30 p.m. on June 15.
