Uncle LV was the only uncle I had on my mother's side (Quete), and although he wasn't around a whole lot when I was growing up, he was certainly around the past 14 years. When my mom (his sister) passed, Uncle LV was there for me. I was so broken. He talked to me often and our conversations helped me handle the grief I was carrying. One day my uncle told me his life story from the time he was a young man (1950's) before he moved to Los Angeles up until 2013. He told me things about my grandparents and my family that I did not know, and stories only an elder family member would know. Elders are so important to the family because they are the link to our family's history, our family tree. Now our last elder has moved on to join his parents and his sisters. My rock. My friend. My uncle. I will not be able to attend his memorial service and I am saddened by that. He will be missed. I will carry the love I have for him in my heart forever.
