Cris Diaz
• Feeding her baby chihuahuas with a tiny bottle until their bellies were sticking out.
• Helping her clean the corn husks for tamales in her bathtub.
• Going to work with her when she worked at the ironing factory, and waiting in a little pushcart, she would have me sit in. I had my toys with me, and I would play until lunchtime. When it was her lunch, she would wheel me to a giant conference table where she would take out her famous breakfast tacos, made with her famous flour tortillas.
• Going with her to Tijuana and riding the bus with her while I drank a Coca-Cola from a clear plastic bag she had bought me. I tried to put a hole in it for some reason, but she caught me and told me not to put a hole in it because I would make a mess on the bus.
• Helping her clean the thorns off the cactus so she could make a dish for dinner with them.
• Watching her eat the tuna fruit from the cactus and always offering me some, but I never wanted any.
• How she smelled like Imari (an Avon perfume scent).
• How soft her cheeks were when I kissed her hello.
• Combing her hair out for her.
• When she would give me French braids.
• Helping her by holding a giant strip of menudo so she could cut it into strips for her to then chop up into little squares for menudo.
• Rubbing her feet with a ton of lotion as she sat on that super cool vintage brown couch.
• Going on walks with her around the neighborhood
• Riding the trolley with her, and that one day when I had my arm around her, a man asked if he could take a picture of us because he was doing his master's project on how families show affection while on public transportation. I explained it to her, and she let him take the picture.
• Her lentil soup.
• Her calabacitas con queso.
• How loud she could whistle.
• How she would randomly break out into song.
• Her magical healing teas.
• How she wanted us to put Aloe vera on any cut or scrape we had.
• How she would call me Cristinita when she was annoyed with me and Cristinuchi when she was happy with me.
Love you forever Grandma <3
Thank you for all the lessons and love.
