Marvin Woodrow Elliott's Obituary
Marvin was born in Pennsylvania to Woodrow Elliott and Pearl C. Wolff. Marvin was raised in Hagerstown, Maryland along with 6 siblings.At a very young age, he enlisted in the US Navy with the help of his grandfather. Marvin was classified as a Hull Technician, Petty Officer First Class. He welded on many ships and submarines. He was also a welding instructor for the Navy. He served in the Vietnam war. Marvin’s last command was basic training of new recruits for the U.S. Navy as a Company Commander at the former Naval Training Center, San Diego. Marvin traveled the world through the Navy and loved it. He received numerous honors, medals and achievements throughout his Navy career. In addition to a busy military career, Marvin received his high school diploma from San Diego High School and an Associate’s Degree of Science in Supervision, Industrial Management, and Fire Science from Grossmont College.After serving the U.S. Navy for twenty two and a half years, Marvin added more service to our country with the Federal Government under Civil Service (PWC Public Works Center) for twenty years. Marvin ended his career with PWC as a Construction Materials Specialist. He spent many years in this position which provided a lot of the building supplies necessary to build Balboa Hospital which is known today as Naval Medical Center San Diego.Marvin met the love of his life Bienvenida “Bennie” while serving his country in the Philippines. Marvin held Bennie up on a pedestal. She was his everything. Marvin loved spending time with his kids, grandkids, and great grandchild. He was always busy doing something and loved spending time traveling with his wife and family. He just wanted to be a part of their lives in every way possible. Marvin was the life of the party and always joking. He loved to dance, go fishing, and played the harmonica. He was great at troubleshooting and fixing things the best handyman around!Marvin became a Catholic when he decided to marry Bennie. Marvin was a parishioner at Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Santee for over 45 years. He served Our Lord by helping his church community through RCIA, Legion of Mary, and Eucharistic Ministry. Marvin was always there no matter when or what; always lending a helping hand to his kids and grandkids. He gave advice whether you needed it or not. He served and provided well for his family.Marvin is survived by his wife Bienvenida of 56 years and four children: daughters; Cynthia T. (Bell), Debra P. (Moser), Dorothy R. (Duden), and son; Marvin JR., 7 grandkids, and 1 great grandchild. He was beloved by all.The Vigil/Viewing starts at 6:00pm on 9th of March. And the Recitation of the Rosary will be at 8:30pm that evening.
