Mrs. Marilyn Smith's Obituary
Marilyn E. Smith, a caring, and beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away July 25, 2021, at the age of 85, surrounded by her family, while in the care of UCSD La Jolla. Marilyn was born in San Diego, on June 25, 1936, to Floyd L. Skiles and Lois J. Skiles. She was the first of four children, survived by her brother, Robert Skiles, and sister, Kathy Hopper.
Committed to her education, Marilyn graduated from Hoover High School, and later went on to graduate from SDSU with a bachelor’s degree in political science, establishing a career at SDG&E for over 25 years before retiring.
Marilyn, married in 1955, to her first husband Neil Dreischmeyer (divorced 1970), spent her early years raising her four children, loved cooking, camping, playing the piano, and games. Marilyn always loved being surrounded by her family and friends.
In October 1976, she married the love of her life, Avery J. Smith. They enjoyed the theater, playing games, genealogy research, and traveling the world together. Merging their two families, her four children Donald N. Dreischmeyer, Dennis L. Dreischmeyer, Susan R. Mills, and Douglas F. Dreischmeyer all of San Diego, California, and his three children Linda Clukey, James A. Smith, and Lorraine Kent, also of San Diego, California and her beloved 15-year-old shih-tzu, “Brandy”. Marilyn’s loving legacy will forever live-on in her 7-Children, 15-Grand-Children, 23-Great-Grand-Children, and her unborn Great-Great-Granddaughter. (Preceded her in death are husband, Avery J. Smith; Brother, Thomas Skiles; and Grandson, Neil C. Dreischmeyer).
Marilyn will forever be in our hearts and missed by all. Her eternal resting place is at: Greenwood Mortuary, 4300 Imperial Avenue, San Diego, CA 92113. On August 11, 2021 (4-8pm), a visiting in the Salli Lynn Chapel for anyone wishing to say their goodbyes. Her Service is August 12, 2021 (1-2pm) at Salli Lynn Chapel, and graveside at 2:30pm. “Marilyn’s Celebration of Life” is immediately following the services at: Casa Guadalajara, 4105 Taylor Street, San Diego, CA 92110. (3:30-5:30pm)
