I met Oscar through David Lounsberry, who was another tall guy and Basketball player who was very good friends and close with Oscar. I last saw Oscar around 2002 on Harrison Ave. Always a Respectful, Kind person, loved to joke and very witty.Great Person. I didn’t know he passed but I know he knew the lord very well and I just want to give my Condolences to his family. Both he and Dave have Passed on . It was an awesome sight to see these guys play ball they complemented each other. God Bless .

Throughput the years, I had ask friends and classmates as to the whereabouts of Oscar Foster. I was given different stories about his life, but one stood out, about his struggles with mental illness. Today as I was researching about Oscar, I found out about his death in 2018.

I am very saddened to hear he is no longer with us. But what is just as troubling for me is that Oscar, the bigger than life gentle giant and my classmate who helped us become champions in 1967 and in our lives, did not reach his lifelong potential and creativity. The young man who was most likely to succeed and who gave us many happy memories in our young years had to deal with the debilitating trauma of mental illness. And I feel so sad for this.

But the Big O will continue to live in our memories and inspire us to live on in the Christian spirit of good deeds and kindness that he showed during his lifelong struggles.

Oscar you will be missed very much. We had lockers next to each other at SDHS. You were always smiling made my day. Asked me how I was . Talked to you at the 40th reunion. Was so happy to see you. RIP Oscar.

Oscar was bigger than life. Always had a smile. Amazing human being, it was such a delight to watch him play SDHS Basketball , he did bring so much joy to the class of 1967. I would see him occasionally over the years and regardless of his situation, he was still a gentle giant. Peace to his family

Oscar and I were friends at Memorial Junior High School and San Diego High School. He was a year ahead of me…he always found time to speak with me…a short, skinny kid who enjoyed his company. Oscar and I were on the “public speaking circuit” at Memorial, often entering Speech Contests sponsored by the Optimist Club, Kiwanis Club and other service organizations. He always finished in First Place and I always finished a “close second.” He encouraged me not to give up…and when he promoted to the 10th Grade and was now attending San Diego High, I finally finished in First Place as a Ninth Grader. When I entered the 10th Grade, I saw him on the “Diego Campus” and I told him about my First Place achievement. He laughed, gave me a hug and said, “I knew you would some day earn First Place!” I smiled for days…Oscar was my role model, and friend. He will always live in my heart and mind…great memories!!!

Oscar Foster was a name that I never forgot through the years. I saw him is his high school days when I was in Junior High. By far, one of the best high school players I ever saw. Fly high Oscar Foster. Please Rest in Peace brother. -Tony Flores
